Charities

Hi Everyone,

For the second year OYPS is supporting the work of Oxford Homeless Pathways (OxHoP) who "provide a range of services for homeless and recently homeless people aged 25 and over...help to build confidence, develop new skills and put in place plans that will support [people] to change their lives."  You can find out more about the charity at www.oxhop.org.uk

You will see that OYPS participated in a Sky Dive in October 2010 and raised £5,982.50.  We would love to match that figure and need your help to do so.

Our planned charity events this year (2011/2012) include:

The Poker Night - 18th January at Blake Lapthorn

The Quiz Night - 16th February at Henmans

OYPS to the Streets - end of February

OxHoP the Ridgeway - 7th-8th July

OYPS Summer Event - 26th May

OYPS to the Streets

As sponsors of Oxford Homeless Pathways we thought it would be appropriate to arrange a 'Sleep-out' to better understand the importance of OxHoP's work.  We challenge you to join us sleeping on the streets of Oxford for one night in February (exact date to be confirmed).  You will be provided with ample cardboard to make your 'bed' for the night and will need to provide your own sleeping bag. NB - pillows are not allowed!!!!

Further details will follow in due course so keep an eye on this page...

OxHoP the Ridgeway - 'Walk by day, Party by Night'

We invite you to participate in our charity walk (for OxHoP) on Saturday 7th July 2012 and then to celebrate everyone's efforts with a meal and overnight stay at a venue nearby (tbc).  There is no fee for participating in the walk; all we ask is that each team raises a minimum of £100 sponsorship.  Your stay at the venue will be subsidised and further details will be released in due course.

We need three types of participants for the walk: walkers; driver; and first aiders.

  • Walkers: walking in teams of 4 you will complete a 26 mile walk along The Ridgeway.  Each team will have a designated team leader who will be provided with the necessary maps and relevant information.  You will be responsible for providing your own kit but will each receive a goody bag before the event begins.  Support and refreshments will be provided along the way.
  • Support cars: You will be responsible for driving to designated meeting points along the walk to provide refresments and a well-earned rest for the walkers.  You will also be transporting bags for the walkers and first aid kits.
  • First aiders: We need a few designated first aiders and are happy for you to be involved as a walker or a support driver also.

If none of the above take your fancy or if you already have plans for during the day on the 7th July you are welcome to join us at the venue(tbc) in the evening.

Thanks

Lelani and Caroline (your OYPS Charity Officers)

MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW...

OYPS have recently committed to raising £5000 to fund the creation of a children's play centre in the new Cancer Centre at the Churchill hospital. This will be available for use by those accompanying their parents whilst they receive treatment at the hospital as well as for children who are receiving cancer treatment themselves (and their siblings of course). The idea is to convert about a quarter of the space in the waiting room (it is quite large) into 3 'play' areas - two for young children (an activity area with plenty of toys and comfy seats and a Wendy house) and a third with computers and internet access for slightly older patients to keep themselves entertained during what are sometimes a few hours waiting time.

We are looking to raise the funds in a number of ways......

Skydiving

16 of us have obviously lost the plot as we have signed up to a charity skydiving event on 1st October and are busy raising funds to meet our minimum sponsorship! Any donations gratefully received to any of our justgiving pages - see the following pages for more details:

More information about the airfield can be found at http://tinyurl.com/oypsskydive

A special mention must go out to Ridge and Partners LLP, who have 6 people signed up to this event - way to go guys!! Also big thanks to OXford Conference Centre and Let's Do Lunched for all their help. Please visit their sites below ...
